Meeting Date and Location:

Horizon Realty Group, the owner of The Merion Senior Living Community, will be filing for a Zoning Analysis to construct a 25-story multi-family residential building with 215 dwelling units and 149 parking spaces. The proposed development would also include 3,691 square feet of ground floor commercial space.
At the request of Alderman Fiske, a new page has been created to collect comments about the Northlight Theatre project that was introduced at the September Ward meeting. You can download the visuals that were presented at the meeting and submit any comments to Alderman Fiske using the form on the page. Here is the link to the Northlight comment page.
Sheridan Road/Chicago Avenue
This project has experienced approximately 6 weeks of delays due to the State of Illinois budget shutdown and unforeseen utility conflicts. However, it is lately proceeding along briskly. The west side of Sheridan Road between Chicago Avenue and Lincoln Street is now complete, and construction on the east side began today. Work between Chicago Avenue and Lincoln Street is anticipated to finish in mid-October. At that point, the contractor will demobilize until next spring, when they will return to complete the work from Lincoln Street to Wilmette.
Fountain Square Improvements
Fountain Square south of Davis is continuing on schedule. Sidewalk and curb work is substantially complete, and foundation work on the south plaza area is beginning. This will continue to late October. Work on the north plaza is also beginning, but this is mostly underground work so visual progress may be minimal for the next few weeks. Long lead times for the memorial wall and the fountain mean that these items will not be completed until spring 2018. The contractor is expected to be offsite by the holiday shopping season and will return to complete work in the spring. As a side note – Downtown Evanston has coordinated some artwork to be installed on the construction fence, and installation is expected to begin next week!
Emerson/Ridge/Green Bay Road
Most work on this intersection is complete. Mast arm signage that is being added to Ridge just south of the viaduct to provide directions to northbound traffic has had an unusually long lead time and is now expected to be installed late in 2017. Unfortunately, Emerson/Ridge/Green Bay is functionally acting as the unofficial detour route for Sheridan Road. Because the volume of traffic has increased 75% or more, traffic backups are occurring. This would be worse if the new traffic signals had not been installed allowing for better coordination between the intersections. Staff continues to monitor the situation, but substantial improvements are not expected until the construction on Sheridan Road is completed in October.

In September 2016, the City Council directed the Parks and Recreation Board and the Lighthouse Landing Complex Committee to develop a plan for the future operation of the Harley Clarke property. Since November, a planning committee comprised of members of these two groups has been meeting monthly with interested residents to discuss proposals for the property. The committee has focused in particular on the proposal for an environmental education center developed by Evanston Lakehouse and Gardens.
Plan to join us on Wednesday, April 26, 7 – 9 p.m., in the Parasol Room, 4th floor, Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., for a presentation about the proposed environmental education center and the financial plan behind it — and share your thoughts about this important community asset.
